The Rivers2Lake education program brings the Lake Superior watershed to life in your classroom by providing:
- Professional development through life changing field experiences and year-long mentoring.
- Improved learning through outdoor and environmental education integrated across subjects.
- Extended resources and year-long support.
Using the environment as an integrating context for learning has been shown to improve student scores in science, math and reading while enhancing student engagement. Rivers2Lake provides hands-on outdoor experiences backed up by the year-long support of a professional mentor who helps integrate Lake Superior and the Great Lakes into the curriculum, meeting the needs of individual educators.
Rivers2Lake provides financial support for student field experiences and outdoor education resources for teachers to use in their schools. Participating teachers receive a stipend and can borrow water monitoring equipment along with other resources such as data collection tools, snowshoes, and other equipment from the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve.
